ODENSE SYMFONIORKESTER'S 80TH BIRTHDAY CONCERT

Dirigent: Christian Øland

Description

80 years is no age "Odense Symfoniorkester - one of Denmark's five regional orchestras - was founded in 1946, but its roots go all the way back to around 1800. From being a theatre orchestra that also played symphonic music, the orchestra today stands as a modern symphony orchestra with a high level of activity and in constant development." So it says on our website, and that is certainly true, but the little text does not reveal how OS has gripped audiences, given intense experiences, invited people to quiet moments together with soloists and conductors from all over the world, and raised the roof of the concert hall. Nor does it tell of our work with young talents, concerts for and with children of all ages, and collaborations with, for example, Odense Teater, Det kgl. Teaters Balletskole, the region's upper secondary schools, Carl Nielsen Museet and others. So 80 years is really no age when it comes to a symphony orchestra, and 80 years is a slightly odd in-between birthday, for it is not one of the "quarters" - 25, 50, 75 and 100 - but rather one of the fifths - 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 - and as such still worth celebrating, now that we have the opportunity, are very much alive and in full vigour. So we invite you to a birthday party, where we celebrate what was, what is, and what is to come. We give the world premiere of a Concerto for Orchestra by the Danish composer John Frandsen, we play Carl Nielsen, and there will be surprises along the way. Come and help celebrate your own symphony orchestra, that of Odense and of all of Funen and surroundings. Programme: J. Nordin: Congratulations! Suite on three popular Danish birthday songs John Frandsen: Concerto for Orchestra (World premiere) Carl Nielsen: Symphony No. 5
