MOZART'S C MINOR MASS
Dirigent: Vincenzo Milletari / Solister: Frederikke Kampmann, sopran, Nadine Koutcher, sopran, Gerald Geerink, tenor, Neven Crnić, bas / Kor: Filharmonisk Kor, Vor Frue Cantori
Description
Mozart wrote his Mass in C minor in 1782-83. He was 24-25 years old, newly married and trying to build a career for himself in Vienna as an independent artist, a somewhat risky way of making a living. Legend has it that Mozart had promised God (or his father?) to write a great mass if his marriage to Constance was blessed by God. It was – and the Mass in C minor was premiered in 1783, before it was entirely finished and with his Constance as soloist. The mass is, as masses should be, solemn, powerful and dramatic, the choir roars, and the soloists express longing for clarity and a search for meaning. "Mozart's music has always touched me because of its liveliness, diversity and elegance. And as a lover of choral music I look forward to this concert with pleasure." Birgit Bauer, 1st violin The soprano aria "Et incarnatus est" is regarded as one of Mozart's most beautiful moments of all, with a heavenly trio for flute, oboe and bassoon. Duration: approx. 1 hour – no interval Programme: W.A. Mozart: Mass in C minor
