Koncertsalen Alsion
Alsion 2, 6400 Sønderborg
The concert hall Alsion is among the best of its kind in Northern Europe. The acoustics are unsurpassed, and performers praise it as a particularly lovely place to perform.
The optimal concert hall is a room whose proportions in length, width and height resemble a shoebox. The length was given in advance. On one side lies Alssund and on the other the railway.
This is why the hall appears as it does - wrapped in two separate concrete boxes, one inside the other. The sound-dead void in the hall's walls means that unwanted sounds from outside do not get in and spoil
the concert experience. And typically DSB's trains run during the intervals...
The hall can hold up to 988 seated guests. The stage is 20 metres wide and can vary in depth from 6 to 9 and 12 metres, as two separate stage sections can be raised and lowered hydraulically. Behind the stage there is room for a choir of 100 singers. The reverberation time is 1.8 seconds.
If you look at the slats on the walls and wonder why you see them mounted with varying gaps, the explanation is not poor eyesight but the fact that they ensure that certain sound frequencies do not get caught between the slats and develop resonance.
