Description

The concert series 'Dødens toner' was created to provide a space in which to reflect on grief and death - in a culture where we only rarely deal with them directly. It is difficult to talk about them, and many will recognise the experience of outsourcing to care homes, hospitals and hospices. Studies show, for instance, that grief is fundamentally lonely in our society. With 'Dødens Toner' we will try to create such a space during All Saints' time - perhaps a modern ritual of mourning - where death finds its way back as a natural part of life, and where we can be together around it. The conditions are good for such a space to be created at precisely this concert. Johannes Brahms' 'Ein deutsches Requiem' is one of the most powerful works in Western music. Other well-known classical requiems often draw their emotional depth from the fear of death. Brahms wrote this Requiem immediately after the death of his mother, and it offers instead a special degree of care and consolation. It is 'A Human Requiem', as Brahms himself considered calling it - a Requiem that suits the complicated times we live in. It inspires and immediately touches a deep and meaningful core in most people. But you can also quite comfortably just turn up and enjoy the music. Adam Fischer and Underholdningsorkestret share great Brahms experience through their complete recordings of his symphonies. They have been highly praised for their clarity and tonal colours. Together, Fischer and the orchestra have also delivered one great oratorio experience after another in recent years, so a great afternoon/evening that plays on the whole register is surely guaranteed - also in the company of outstanding soloists and one of Europe's best choirs. Before the concert, Kristian Leth will give a concert introduction at 16, in which he talks about the text Brahms selected from the Bible for his Requiem and his approach to setting it to music.
