Music Against the Current

Description

Music that dares to go its own way: Farrenc, Shostakovich and Tchaikovsky challenge expectations with edge, presence and playful sonorities. Experience three tuneful works that are as inviting as they are full of personality. Music that is not afraid to be different: hear three pieces that set themselves against the expectations of their time. There is substance and bite in Louise Farrenc's overture - quite contrary to what her time expected of a female composer. Meet Shostakovich in one of his rare gentle corners in the second movement of his intimate ninth symphony. Heartfelt and individualistic, he lets you come right up close to the orchestra's soloists. Tchaikovsky, by contrast, is in a playful mood in his Mozartiana suite, where he pays tribute to his great idol in music that is both fiery and fun. What the three pieces have in common is that they are tuneful and inviting. The After-Work Concert is a breathing space of a little under an hour, where you can let go of the everyday and recharge for the rest of the week with one or more symphonic masterpieces. The concert opens with a short introduction from the stage. Immersion and undivided enthusiasm are encouraged. Beer, wine and water are available to buy. Programme: Louise Farrenc / Overture No. 2 Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky / Suite No. 4, “Mozartiana”, 4th movement Dmitri Shostakovich / Symphony No. 9, 1st and 3rd movements
