SIBELIUS' VIOLIN CONCERTO

Description

Christian Li is the youngest artist ever to have signed a contract with Decca Classics - and he has already released 3 albums at the age of just 18. His debut album received five-star reviews, and BBC Music Magazine highlighted that “he brings a tremendous virtuosity and countless tonal colours to Vivaldi's fast movements …”. We will experience him in Sibelius' intense and virtuosic Violin Concerto. After the interval we turn up the festivities, when we hear Mendelssohn's Lobgesang, which he wrote on the occasion of Leipzig's 400th anniversary. It is a hybrid between a symphony and an oratorio, and it culminates when all forces at the end come together in a tribute to life and faith. The concert is conducted by another Christian, who is also very much on the rise, Christian Blex. In 2025 he won the Herbert von Karajan Young Conductors Award at the Salzburg Festival and has already conducted orchestras such as the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, the Karajan Academy of the Berliner Philharmoniker, Det norske Radiosymfoniorkester and Bergen Filharmoniske Orkester. Duration: approx. 2 hours 20 min. incl. interval Programme: J. Sibelius: Violin Concerto F. Mendelssohn: Lobgesang
