BACH'S ST MATTHEW PASSION

Description

Bach's St Matthew Passion is a musical drama about the Passion of Christ and contains some of the most heartfelt and beautiful choruses. We are therefore really looking forward to collaborating at this concert with NDR Vokalensemblet, which is simply one of the best there is. “I am going to conduct Bach twice - that is new to me! I studied in Leipzig and have even conducted in the Thomaskirken, where Bach was cantor. I will search for the human element in Bach's music. The St Matthew Passion is very sorrowful, but it is really about the salvation of mankind.” Henrik Schaefer The St Matthew Passion combines magnificent choral sections, heartfelt arias, vivid recitatives and chorales. Bach creates an emotionally charged musical journey from the Last Supper to the Crucifixion, where each aria and chorale comments on and interprets the events. The result is one of music history's most moving passions - a work that unites theological depth, drama and an almost otherworldly beauty.
