The Perfect Human
Dirigent: Chanmin Chung
Description
Jørgen Leth's 13-minute cult film from 1968 acts as a stepping stone when dance, theatre and music meet on stage. Jørgen Leth himself called his 1968 film The Perfect Human "a metadocument", and despite running for only 13 minutes it has entered Danish film history. This performance takes Leth's work as its starting point and examines how the human body can be seen, explored and revealed. Like the Dogme films, which Leth also contributed to, this new ballet uses the art of limitation as a creative tool: a white room, a simple garage door - and nothing to hide behind. Everything unfolds within this bare architecture, where every movement, every glance and every breath is magnified. It is an examination of the body as both instrument and potential, for within this frame both the absurd and the fragile side of being human are revealed. Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber both have a sharp eye for the human mind and are experts at creating universes that are at once deeply intimate and sensual and at the same time universally human. Together with the acclaimed American composer Andy Akiho, they are now creating a brand-new work in which music and body are boiled down and meet in pure, unadulterated presence.
