Light & Darkness
Dirigent: Krista Audere
Description
This concert offers a wide-ranging collection of choral music that explores the contrasts of human emotional life - from doubt and lament to peace and hope. Schönberg's enigmatic choral work De Profundis opens with an intense, almost otherworldly sorrow, while Mendelssohn and the Estonian composer Cyrillus Kreek offer peaceful consolation. Mahler's great lied Urlicht from Des Knaben Wunderhorn becomes the culmination of a concert in which darkness and light mutually bring out each other - in the hands of the conductor Krista Audere and DR Vokalensemblet. Programme: Arnold Schönberg / De profundis (Psalm 130) Op. 50b Cyrillus Kreek / Taaveti laul nr.141: Issand, ma hüüan Su poole (Psalm 141) Johannes Brahms / Warum ist das Licht gegeben dem Mühseligen? Op.74, No.1 Jaakko Mäntyjärvi / Die Stimme des Kindes Cyrillus Kreek / Õnnis on inimene Pēteris Vasks / Māte saule Gustav Mahler / Urlicht (arr. Clytus Gottwald)
