Glière's Harp Concerto and Tchaikovsky

Dirigent: Mirian Khukhunaishvili

,

Anneleen Lenaerts, harpe

Description

Sønderjyllands Symfoniorkester puts the harp in focus. For millennia the harp has been surrounded by an almost mythical aura, associated with bardic song and angels, but it is also an instrument with a heavenly sound, melodic, harmonic and rhythmic all at once. We will experience the solo harpist of Wiener Filharmonikerne, Anneleen Lenaerts, in the crown jewel of harp concertos, Glière's Harp Concerto from 1938. Glière wrote the concerto in the middle of the Soviet era, when the regime liked to cultivate nationalistic and accessible music, and it was immediately seen as a "popular" solo work. But it is first and foremost a fantastically beautiful work in which the harp shows itself as a poetic storyteller and a full-blooded virtuoso. We finish with Tchaikovsky's well-known and beloved Symphony No. 5. He wrote the symphony in 1888 during a period of personal and emotional crises, and it also revolves around fate and drama. But although it is dark and intense, it ends in a great, radiant victory. Programme: Beethoven / Coriolan Glière / Harp Concerto Tchaikovsky / Symphony No. 5
