Mozart and Beethoven

Description

Sønderjyllands Symfoniorkester treats the audience's ears to a feast. As part of the celebration of the 200th anniversary of Beethoven's death, we will hear his Symphony No. 2, which he wrote during a difficult period of his life. In the summer of 1802 he stayed in Heiligenstadt, north of Vienna, where the doctors had advised him to rest and take the fresh air in the hope of slowing his increasing hearing loss. Here he wrote the famous Heiligenstadt Testament, a deeply personal and almost valedictory letter in which the composer acknowledges the crisis of his life. That the symphony at the same time bubbles over with joy of life, humour and energy makes the work almost paradoxical. Behind the outgoing, classical form one senses an artist who, despite desperation, refuses to give up. Programme: Mozart / Don Giovanni, overture Mozart / Vorrei spiegarvi, oh Dio! K. 418 Mozart / Ruhe sanft, from Zaide, K. 344 Mozart / Alcandro, lo confesso, K. 294 Mozart / Et incarnatus est, from Mass in C minor, K. 427 Beethoven / Symphony No. 2
