Britten's Violin Concerto with Baiba Skride

Description

Sønderjyllands Symfoniorkester puts the great Englishmen on the music stands. Classical music from England has for many years been somewhat underrated, but there is no reason for that, and least of all when it comes to the two composers on tonight's programme. Britten and Walton were both active in the years around World War 2, but they had completely different ways of composing. Somewhat simplified, one can say that Britten developed an introverted musical language, marked by clarity and psychological depth, while Walton had a more powerful, rhythmic and often dramatic style, clearly influenced by Stravinskij, jazz and late Romanticism. In Britten's Violin Concerto we will experience Baiba Skride, a Latvian violinist who has taken concert halls the world over by storm. We can expect the same intensity from the conductor, Yoel Gamzou, who with passionate presence and a unique artistic vision expands the boundaries of traditional music-making.
