Korngold's Violin Concerto

Description

One of Hollywood's very greatest golden-age composers returns to the music stands at Sønderjyllands Symfoniorkester. The concert offers a reunion with the outstanding violinist Josef Špaček, who impressed in Nielsen's Violin Concerto at the season opening in connection with the orchestra's anniversary year 2023. Josef Špaček plays Korngold's Violin Concerto from 1945, one of the most brilliant and melodically rich works. Korngold was a child prodigy in Vienna, but when Nazism spread, he fled to the USA, where he wrote film music during the war. Korngold decided that he would not write "concert music" until the world was free again. That is why the Violin Concerto became his first major concert work after World War 2 – a kind of personal rebirth. Programme: Bacewicz / Symphony No. 2 Korngold / Violin Concerto Prokofiev / Romeo and Juliet, excerpts
