HALLOWEEN

Description

When we reach the darkest autumn, and the whistle of icy winds, branches cracking against the window, the relentless cry of the black raven, the hooting of the owl in the moonlight and the drumming of the rain on the roof become nature's ominous accompaniment, we hold a Halloween concert at OS. Here you can experience some of the eeriest works classical music has to offer: Rachmaninov's gloomy symphonic poem The Isle of the Dead, Dukas's fairy-tale The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Saint-Saëns's grotesquely demonic Danse macabre, excerpts from Berlioz's hallucinatory classic Symphonie Fantastique - and of course the witches' sabbath in Mussorgsky's frenetic Night on Bald Mountain. We turn the creepiness right up in the concert hall and give the audience the live experience of just how SPOOKY the orchestra can sound when the right, spine-chilling works are on the programme! Programme: Rachmaninov: The Isle of the Dead Dukas: The Sorcerer's Apprentice Saint-Saëns: Danse macabre Berlioz: Symphonie Fantastique (4th + 5th movements) Mussorgsky: Night on Bald Mountain
