Kammermusikforeningen af 1868
København
Kammermusikforeningen i København was founded on 5 December 1868 by Franz Neruda with the aim, through weekly musical evenings, of spreading knowledge of and cultivating chamber music under the private, convivial conditions that correspond to its true nature. The limit on the number of members was originally set at 99, divided into active members - mainly members of Det Kongelige Kapel - and passive ones, and the meetings were held at first once a week in the winter season after theatre time.
The society still holds meetings every Tuesday at 20.30 from October to March. Since its founding it has been important in stimulating Copenhagen's musical life. See also Natmanden
