This week offers an unusual concentration of international solo names and world-class baroque music, complemented by Nordic choral tradition and a reunion with Danish cultural heritage at Gamle Scene.

The American Alisa Weilerstein is among the most distinctive cellists of our time, and on Monday afternoon at Tivolis Glassal she plays a selection of Bach's suites for solo cello. Weilerstein is known for her intense style of interpretation and her ability to create presence even in the best-known works - an obvious opportunity to experience this music in an intimate setting.

On Saturday two other international stars meet in Glassalen: the violinist Janine Jansen and the pianist Denis Kozhukhin. Jansen, who this season is Artist in Residence with the Berliner Philharmonikerne, returns to chamber music with Brahms' Violin Sonata No. 1 and Prokofiev's first violin sonata.

Copenhagen Baroque Festival runs throughout the week, and several concerts deserve attention. In Trinitatis Kirke the 400th anniversary of John Dowland's death is marked with the concert "Fantasies of Greatness", where the soprano Clara Cecilie Thomsen, together with the lutenist Elizabeth Kenny and the gambist Reiko Ichise, explores music by Dowland and Tobias Hume from Christian IV's Copenhagen. On Friday the flautist Joachim Becerra Thomsen - named P2 Artist of the Year - takes the stage with the baroque orchestra Arte dei Suonatori in works by J.S. Bach and C.P.E. Bach. On Saturday afternoon Fredensborg Slotskirkes Pigekor, under the direction of Cille Buch, takes over the church with music by Purcell.

DR Vokalensemblet opens its traditional summer tour with Nordic choral music in Trinitatis Kirke on Tuesday. The programme includes works by Carl Nielsen, Rued Langgaard and Swedish composers such as Wilhelm Stenhammar and Hugo Alfvén.

At Koncertkapellet in Roskilde, the cellist Andreas Brantelid and the pianist Marianna Shirinyan guest at Schubertiaden with a programme ranging from Beethoven via Debussy to Shostakovich. Both artists are among the most sought-after soloists in the Nordic countries.

At Det Lille Teater in Copenhagen, Det Lille Teater and Copenhagen Opera Festival perform a family version of Wagner's Ring - four operas condensed into one story about power and the seduction of the ring. On Sunday morning Den Kongelige Ballet opens the season with "Til glæden" at Gamle Scene, where the Bournonville repertoire culminates in La Sylphide.

The week's programme stretches from early baroque to late Brahms, from Nordic choral tradition to the mythological universe of opera - and thus offers something for both the experienced concertgoer and the curious newcomer.
