Guitarist Niklas Johansen recommends concerts in September
Niklas Johansen is a classical guitarist, trained at Det Kongelige Danske Musikkonservatorium with Jesper Sivebæk and at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt in Weimar with Ricardo Gallén. He is currently touring mainly with music from the internationally acclaimed solo double album Platero y Yo (OUR Recordings), with Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco's work cycle on Juan Ramón Jiménez' poetry collection, and in a duo with the flautist Alena Walentin with music from their new album Skyscraper Soup (Naxos Denmark). In the near future he will also release a single with the work L’eau by Martin Lohse, which is dedicated to him. Alongside his performing career he teaches at Det Kongelige Danske Musikkonservatorium and MGK Hovedstaden. www.niklasjohansen.dk
1/9 Nordisk Klaverkvartet
My recent experience of Rikke Sandberg's release concert (Nielsen's piano works on OUR Recordings) is still with me - and I am sure that she and Nordisk Klaverkvartet will also tonight fill the room with presence and soulful fire. In addition to immortal works by Mozart and Robert Schumann, they also play Frederik Magle's lovely music.
6/9 Pablo Sáinz-Villegas
The world star Pablo Sáinz-Villegas is back in Denmark for the first time since he gave a phenomenal concert 13 years ago with Copenhagen Phil in Konservatoriets Koncertsal. This time we can experience him solo in the more intimate setting of Mogens Dahl Koncertsal, and I am sure it will be a huge experience.
12/9 Andreas Brantelid and Concerto Copenhagen
The people of Bornholm are lucky to be able to experience both Andreas Brantelid and Concerto Copenhagen, with the fantastic Lars Ulrik Mortensen at the helm, in one and the same concert. Both have given me some of my greatest concert experiences, and as we know, 2+2 tends to make 5.
13/9 Lars Colding Wolf
If you live near Aalborg, you should not miss this afternoon concert with Lars Colding Wolf's always beautiful interpretations of Bach and Buxtehude, among others, on the organ of Sankt Markus Kirke - and what is more, admission is free!
13/9 Scandinavian Guitar Duo
I can warmly recommend this concert with my former teachers from DKDM, who have honed their sublime ensemble playing for more than 30 years. Their energetic and lively recording of Albéniz’ Suite Española has for many years been a regular on my stereo, so it is a great pleasure to see that they also have pieces from it on the programme at this concert.
15/9 Trio con Brio Copenhagen
Trio con Brio's albums have truly been reference recordings for me ever since I heard their interpretation of Ravel's Piano Trio in A minor on my iPod as a young teenager. This lecture-concert is the culmination of a research project on the mechanisms of chamber music, delivered by some of the very best - I'm looking forward to it!
19/9 Niklas Johansen
I look forward to playing this solo concert in Birkholm Kirkesal, where the programme will feature music from my latest solo album Platero y Yo: 28 imaginative pieces written by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco on Juan Ramón Jiménez’ Andalusian prose poems about the little donkey Platero. I hope we will see each other!
