Autumn Concert with CORUS Saxophone Quartet
Description
CORUS saxophone quartet plays Morthenson, Berg and Dankner. Programme Jan Morthenson (1940-2024): Corale (1987) Olav Berg (b. 1949): Quintet (2016) Stephen Dankner (b. 1944): Quartet (2014) Performers CORUS saxophone quartet: Petter Voilås (soprano saxophone) Andreas Helgeland (alto saxophone) Jonas Eskeland (tenor saxophone) Magnus von Brandis (baritone saxophone) ... with Haike Dietrich (piano) About the concert At this autumn concert CORUS will present a modern programme of Nordic and American music. Jan Morthenson made his mark in Sweden from the 60s by writing “non-figurative music”, in the 70s with “meta-music”; and his last period from the 80s, “existentialist music”, which Corale comes from. The work expresses a philosophy of music without goal or purpose, but which exists and wonders. CORUS are very committed to promoting new Nordic music at a high level; and are now glad to have the fantastic pianist Haike Dietrich with them for Olav Berg's Quintet for piano and saxophones. Olav Berg still stands out as a leading composer of his generation, and writes especially well and excitingly for wind instruments. Stephen Dankner is a composer from New York who has written a dozen string quartets and symphonies, but has also built a fine repertoire for saxophone with solo concertos, sonatas, trios, and this saxophone quartet from 2014.
