Åsmund Moen with the sinfonietta
Åsmund Moen
,Halldis Rønning
Description
Hear our own percussionist as soloist in brand-new music for percussion and sinfonietta. In the commissioned work Imprints II, Terje Viken has taken as his starting point the intersection between the intuitive and the more structured. – I have always been fascinated by Åsmund Moen and his rich musical palette – everything from classical orchestra to Japanese contemporary music or funk, says the composer himself about the piece. The work came about in dialogue with the evening's soloist, and some of their shared musical references. The piece thus mirrors both the soloist and the composer's “musical memory archive”. In all the works of the concert, the sinfonietta explores different degrees of flexibility and different types of relationships – both between the musicians on stage and in the relationship to the music itself. All the music you will hear was written in the last 20 years. Here you will hear the Nordic region's greatest composer of our time, Kaija Saariaho, and the ever curious and self-renewing Knut Vaage. We also hear how the Irish-Norwegian Eric Skytterholm Egan gives the musicians themselves a greater role in shaping the music, while gladly letting us hear glimpses of history through the filter of the present. The concert is conducted by the Norwegian Halldis Rønning, who has distinguished herself in particular through her commitment to new music. In recent years she has researched various creative extensions of the art of conducting as well as of the orchestral musicians' artistic room for manoeuvre.
