The Dream of Gerontius

Description

A dying man's last hours, the song of the angels and the soul's journey towards eternity. Cristian Măcelaru conducts Oslo-filharmonien, Bergen Filharmoniske Kor, Oslo Filharmoniske Kor and the soloists Jamie Barton, Robin Tritschler and Derek Welton in Edward Elgar's magnificent oratorio The Dream of Gerontius, which has become one of the finest examples of late Romantic choral music. When life nears its end, what does the soul meet on the other side? In Oslo, two of Norway's leading choirs and an international trio of soloists come together under Cristian Măcelaru's direction to bring this monumental work to life. The Dream of Gerontius is an oratorio based on John Henry Newman's poem of the same name. The poem follows an old man's encounter with death and the soul's meeting with a guardian angel, God and finally purgatory. Programme: Edward Elgar / The Dream of Gerontius
