Engegårdkvartetten & Olli Mustonen: Beethoven, Brahms & Mustonen

Olli Mustonen

Description

- New family silver. The season ends this year with an encounter between Engegårdkvartetten and one of the Nordic region's most distinctive musical personalities: Olli Mustonen. For several decades the Finnish pianist, composer and conductor has been compared with figures such as Rachmaninoff and Busoni - musicians who have not allowed themselves to be confined to a single role in musical life. Engegårdkvartetten has a close relationship with Mustonen as a composer. They gave the premiere of his first string quartet, and a few years ago they recorded his piano quintet with Mustonen at the piano. The Strad described the recording as «driven by biting power, conviction and technical ease». On this Friday evening they bring this work to us. The programme is framed by Beethoven's beautiful Harp Quartet and Brahms' dramatic violin sonata in D minor - with Arvid Engegård in duo with Olli Mustonen. Welcome to the season finale! Concert programme: Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) String Quartet No. 10 in E-flat major, Op. 74 'Harp' Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) Violin Sonata No. 3 in D minor, Op. 108 Olli Mustonen (b. 1967) Piano Quintet (2014) Performers: Arvid Engegård, violin Amanda Håøy Horn, violin Juliet Jopling, viola Jan Clemens Carlsen, cello Olli Mustonen, piano
