Dvořák's 7th and new Danish piano concerto

Dirigent: Pawel Kapula / Solist: Gustav Piekut, klaver

Description

A great Romantic symphony meets new Danish music in a concert where tradition and renewal mirror each other. The Czech Dvoráks Symphony No. 7 forms the classical weight under the gifted young conductor Pawel Kapula, while the Danish star pianist Gustav Piekut is soloist in Matias Vestergård's newly composed piano concerto. Dvoráks Symphony No. 7 is among the composer's most dramatically charged works. The dark tone colours, strong outbursts of emotion and intense drive hold the listener from the first bar. The symphony's powerful contrasts and catchy melodies have roots in Bohemian folk tunes. Rarely does Dvorák so clearly profess his national origins, and the work has become an audience favourite all over the world. The Dane Mathias Vestergård (b. 1989) is among the most sought-after composers of his generation. Now a full-scale new piano concerto follows – a declaration of love to the genre and to masters such as Ravel, Prokofiev and Saint-Saëns. The soloist is Gustav Piekut, who with technical surplus and strong musical presence is among the country's most sought-after pianists and whose performance of Herman D. Koppel's Piano Concerto No. 3 with Copenhagen Phil in 2025 drew full houses. The Polish composer Grazyna Bacewicz was a prominent figure in 20th-century music. Her overture for symphony orchestra was composed in 1943, but premiered only after the end of the Second World War. Programme: Bacewicz / Overture Vestergård / Piano concerto no. 1, Danish premiere Dvoráks / Symphony No. 7 Organiser: Copenhagen Phil Duration: Approx. two hours Doors close promptly Drinks, outerwear and larger bags may not be brought into the hall Cloakroom fee included in the price
