Dirigent: Nicolò Foron
,Mira Foron, violin
Description
There are national-romantic tones on the programme when the German-Italian star conductor Nicolò Foron takes US on a journey through Europe. Carl Nielsen's sun-drenched Helios Overture was written during a stay in Athens in 1903 and depicts the sun's journey across the Aegean Sea, from sunrise to sunset. About 25 years earlier, in his native Bohemia, Dvořák had formed the connection with Johannes Brahms that became decisive for his international breakthrough. One of the results was the breathtakingly beautiful and fiery Violin Concerto, which has remained at the top of the violin repertoire since its premiere in 1883. As soloist we are fortunate to meet the conductor's sister, the great talent Mira Foron. The concert rounds off with Tchaikovsky's heart-rending Symphony No. 6, nicknamed Pathétique, which he premiered nine days before his mysterious death in 1893. Tchaikovsky himself declared that he had ”put his whole soul into this work” - and there it has remained, as a dark and gripping musical legacy for its great composer. Programme: C.
