Das Lied von der Erde

Description

Sønderjyllands Symfoniorkester takes on Mahler's great work. Alevtina Ioffe is chief conductor of Bern Opera, 1st guest conductor of the Staatskapelle Weimar - and from this season the orchestra's honorary conductor. At this concert Ioffe conducts Mahler's great work Das Lied von der Erde, which he wrote in a period marked by illness, loss and personal crisis, and the music moves between outgoing joie de vivre, nature poetry and existential farewell. The work was not premiered until after his death. Deep silence was reported after the end of the last movement, "Der Abschied". The texts are a re-working of Chinese poems from the 8th-9th century, but timeless in their themes: enjoyment of life, melancholy, nature and farewell. Programme: Mahler / Das Lied von der Erde
