Description

The champagne flows and a whole society waltzes towards the abyss as eroticism, lies, intrigues and affairs open the masked ball. From the very first notes of the overture the party is under way in Johann Strauss' famous operetta. The story is comic and the entanglements many, so prick up your ears, because now things move fast: the main character Eisenstein once left his friend Dr. Falke in the street, drunk and dressed in a bat costume. Now Falke is planning his revenge. He invites Eisenstein to a masked ball, but has also invited his wife Rosalinde. She poses as a Hungarian countess, and Eisenstein is completely captivated and tries to seduce his own wife. The couple's maid Adele is also at the party, and so is the prison governor Frank, who was actually supposed to arrest Eisenstein. Confused? It doesn't matter much, because none of it is to be taken too seriously in Strauss' immortal operetta, something the Austrian master composer underlines with a string of recognisable and highly hummable songs. Look forward to star director Barrie Kosky's festive staging, in which bat costumes play a not insignificant role, and where singers, dancers and more than 30 extras make Operaens Store Scene the setting for a party you will not forget in a hurry. Barrie Kosky is, incidentally, behind several of the recent years' successes at Den Kongelige Opera - Bizet's Carmen, Handel's Saul, Mozart's The Magic Flute and Poulenc's Dialogues of the Carmelites. Die Fledermaus is sung in Danish/German with Danish and English surtitles. In collaboration with Bayerische Staatsoper München and De Nationale Opera Amsterdam Recommended from age 6
