'Klassisk i Viborg' is Viborg Municipality's classical music offering for all the municipality's citizens. Viborg Municipality wants a diverse and flourishing cultural life, where quality and outreach are paramount, and where classical music performed live by the best artists is accessible to everyone. In connection with the closure of Det Jyske Ensemble, the Culture Committee decided to retain the municipal grant for classical music and to set up a board, which decides how these funds are used on the basis of the so-called arm's-length principle.
The board's task is to coordinate the classical offering and promote knowledge of the activities via the website 'Klassisk i Viborg' as well as the publication of a brochure, which comes out twice a year, in November and May. The board can arrange concerts on its own initiative, and give grants to concerts on the basis of applications submitted by local organisers. Applications are collected twice a year. No application form is used, but an application must contain a project description, an artistic description, a budget and, where relevant, CVs of the participating artists. An application may take up no more than the equivalent of 5 A4 pages.
