Københavns Kantatekor
Københavns Kantatekor has existed since 1984 and has a long tradition of performing large and challenging oratorio works. High ambitions have always been paramount for the choir, which holds concerts in various city and suburban churches in Greater Copenhagen.
The choir consists of about 55 singers aged 25 to 55, and has over the years performed both the sure “hits” and some more unfamiliar works. Among the biggest and best known can be mentioned Verdi Requiem, Händel Messiah, Bach St John Passion, St Matthew Passion, St Mark Passion, Mass in B minor and Christmas Oratorio. Mozart Requiem and Mass in C minor, Brahms Ein deutsches Requiem, Dvořák Requiem and Stabat Mater, Mendelssohn Elijah and St Paul and many, many more great works.
The choir has now been conducted for 25 years by Torben H.S. Svendsen, who is a privately trained conductor under, among others, Dan-Olof Stenlund, Alice Granum and Michael Bojesen. Torben is also an organist and has made performing large oratorio works with choir and orchestra his speciality.
Over time the choir has received many stars and warm words from reviewers, and many professional singers and musicians want to perform with Københavns Kantatekor. Thus there are always top professional soloists and musicians at the choir's concerts.
