The artist collective Venteværelset arose in the spring of 2020 with isolation as a practical condition, artistic dogma and creative driving force. While the pandemic forced cultural institutions to cancel performances one after another, it also inspired thirteen young opera singers, classical musicians, blog artists, a dramaturg and a director to unite around a shared vision. The collective's aim is to open a space for reflection on the loneliness, anxiety and lack of future of the locked-down society. Its means is the drama, sensitivity and musicality of opera. Venteværelset experiments collectively with new ways of creating, communicating and democratising opera. Their mobile genre hybrid of baroque music, contemporary movement and acid neon colours explores the limits of opera and seeks out unaccustomed audiences where they live and dwell – outside the traditional opera houses – in back yards, on playgrounds, in libraries and other urban venues. Venteværelset works cross-media and lets its aesthetic and universe live on in the blog www.ventevaerelset.com, which showcases the collective's artistic work and emotional processing of the strange time we live in. The artist collective Venteværelset are winners of Snabslanten & KBH+´s Pitch, Please! Grand Prize for young artists and entrepreneurs 2020.
