Lorenza Borrani

Description

Lorenza Borrani invites us on a musical journey from evening to sunrise. Lorenza Borrani returns with a programme that truly takes us on a full evening of music. We begin with Haydn's Symphony No. 8, known as Le Soir, The Evening. The symphony is one of three Haydn wrote for Prince Paul II Anton Esterházy. Haydn was to spend many years at this Austrian court, which was known for its excellent chamber orchestra. Symphony No. 8 takes us through a playful and good-humoured musical evening, in which a thunderstorm finally approaches and raindrops drum across the instrument groups. The night is filled with music by Arnold Schönberg. His Verklärte Nacht is inspired by Richard Dehmel's poem of the same name, and not least by Schönberg's meeting with Mathilde, who would later become his wife. The poem is about a woman and a man walking through a dark forest. Only the moon lights the way as the woman confides a dark secret; she is pregnant as a result of an earlier relationship. Fortunately the love between the two who wander together in the night is great enough, and the child is accepted as their shared child. When morning comes, we return to Haydn. Symphony No. 6 was nicknamed Le matin, The Morning, and was the first Haydn wrote as an employee at the court of Prince Paul II Anton Esterházy. Haydn paid tribute to the orchestra's musicians by writing in several solo parts for both wind and string players, so that the different instrument groups could shine. The symphony got its nickname from the slow opening, which evokes associations of a musical sunrise. And we are ready for a new day… Programme: Joseph Haydn – Symphony No. 8, Le soir (The Evening) Arnold Schönberg – Verklärte Nacht (Transfigured Night) Joseph Haydn – Symphony No. 6 Le Matin (The Morning) Performers: Directing from the violin: Lorenza Borrani Symphony orchestra
