Description
For many, it isn't Christmas until they have heard Bach's Christmas Oratorio in Nidarosdomen. As surely as Christmas is rung in at five o'clock on Christmas Eve, so are the five timpani strokes that open the work, which was composed by Johann Sebastian Bach in Leipzig in 1734, and has since resounded in cathedrals all over the world. «Jauchzet frohlocket! Jubel og glede!» The Christmas Oratorio consists of six cantatas, one for each of the first three days of Christmas, one for the 1st day of the new year, one for the Sunday after New Year and one for Epiphany. Programme: Johann Sebastian Bach / Christmas Oratorio, BWV 248 (Cantatas 1–3, 5)
