Beethoven's Ninth

Description

– Europe's anthem in a turbulent age Beethoven's monumental Ninth Symphony is a celebration of humanity and community in one great, inclusive embrace. The concert opens with Ørjan Matre's Freude, a short work commissioned by the Bergen filharmoniske orkester as a prelude to the very Symphony No. 9. In Symphony No. 9, Beethoven and Adam Hickox take orchestra, choir, soloists and audience on a journey from chaos and hardship to peace of mind and, finally, jubilant joy in this masterpiece of a symphony. A symphony that sums up all of Beethoven's compositional output and is regarded as his greatest composition. The symphony has become a symbol of peace between nations and between people, and was inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage list of cultural heritage in 2001. Programme: Ørjan Matre / Freude Ludwig van Beethoven / Symphony No. 9, Op. 125
