Den Jyske Opera / Maskarade at Det Kgl. Teater
Description
Copenhagen Phil is, of course, once again to be found in the orchestra pit when Den Jyske Opera raises the curtain in November on one of the great classics of Danish opera: Carl Nielsen's Maskarade. Carl Nielsen's Maskarade from 1906, based on Ludvig Holberg's comedy from 1724, is regarded as Denmark's national opera. The comic opera leaps humorously and affectionately into the generation gap and is about different outlooks on the world colliding. The calm, cleanliness and propriety of times past are challenged by the young generation's will to do things differently. Today, too, generations clash in their understanding of gender, culture and readiness to take offence. Here a generation of Jeronimuses shake their heads at all the young people shouting #metoo, even though they themselves grew up in the authority rebellion of the 1970s. There is an eternal gulf between generations, and it will always be "another time..." when you look back on your own youth. Now it is once again the turn of the young to take the floor and the helm. NB: Tickets for this performance are bought through Den Jyske Opera. When the tickets go on sale, it will be possible to buy them via their website, which is linked to at the top via the button that says "Buy Ticket".
