Det Kongelige Danske Musikkonservatorium
Det Kongelige Danske Musikkonservatorium is a powerhouse in classical musical life, standing for the highest international level and measuring itself against, and collaborating with, a number of the best conservatoires in the world. The highest degrees in music and music education are offered here, delivered by a body of teachers that includes many of the great names in music, among them many international authorities who are attached, among other things, as guest teachers. The educational environment is very international and marked by a healthy, competitive interplay between the students, Danish as well as international.
The programmes
The conservatoire offers a broad range of programmes at bachelor's, master's and soloist level, aimed at working as a musician, organist, composer, music teacher, sound engineer or other employment within music. The postgraduate programmes train students further to the very highest level as soloist, opera singer, composer or conductor.
Art and development activities
Besides the programmes, the conservatoire has important tasks in artistic and pedagogical development work and research, as well as activities that promote both music and musical culture (concerts, festivals, CD recordings, book publications etc.).
Concert offering and musical diversity
Classical music is a central part of our culture and cultural heritage, and for DKDM this means in practice that the programmes and the large offering of public concerts take as their starting point more than five hundred years of music – right up to the latest currents. It is a colossal treasury of music marked by great diversity of styles, genres and modes of expression, which it is both a duty and an inspiration to develop further and keep up to date, so that it will continue to matter to modern people and thereby to our society.
