Syddansk Musikkonservatorium (SDMK) is a higher education institution under the Ministry of Culture, offering music and music education programmes at the highest level. It is furthermore SDMK's task to develop and promote its art field and the cultural life connected with it, which is done, among other things, through artistic and educational development work. With its locations in Odense and Esbjerg respectively, Syddansk Musikkonservatorium is a significant player in the cultural life of Southern Denmark - both as a place of study and a cultural institution, but also very much as an active contributor to the whole region's musical talent pool and professional music scene: Finally, by virtue of the approximately 200 concerts the institution holds each year, SDMK is also one of the region's leading providers of musical cultural experiences for the region's citizens. Alongside their studies, the conservatoire's approximately 260 students also play a prominent and active role in the whole region's cultural life - both as performing musicians, initiators and teachers.
