Nightingale String Quartet is based in Copenhagen and consists of Gunvor Sihm and Josefine Dalsgaard, violins, Marie Louise Broholt Jensen, viola, and Louisa Schwab, cello. The core of the quartet's identity is a shared passion for the wonderful string quartet repertoire, as well as a strong love for each other as both musicians and best friends. Education: Nightingale String Quartet is trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, where Professor Tim Frederiksen has acted as a faithful mentor since the quartet's formation in 2007. In addition, the quartet has received tuition from Professor Hatto Beyerle, founder of the Alban Berg Quartet and the European Chamber Music Academy in Hannover. Prizes: In June 2008 the quartet won 1st Prize in the Royal Danish Academy of Music's annual chamber music competition, and the year after they won 2nd prize at Danmarks Radio P2's chamber music competition. In 2010 they won 2nd prize at the international chamber music competition “Charles Hennen Concours” in the Netherlands, and the same year received DR P2's Talent Prize - with the words of the jury: "for, with burning passion, irresistible spirit and infectious mutual responsiveness, making the classical string quartet burst with life - so that the music speaks directly and powerfully to both new and old listeners". In 2011 the quartet was awarded Léonie Sonnings Musiklegat, Jacob Gades store legat and Odd Fellow Logens Legat, and in 2013 they were soloists with Tivolis Symfoniorkester in connection with receiving the "Anmelderringens Kunstnerpris 2013". In 2014 Nightingale String Quartet was awarded Gramophone's award "Young artist of the Year", as the first ensemble in the history of the prize. Concert activity: Besides a large concert schedule in Denmark, Nightingale String Quartet has toured in, among other places, China, Russia, Brazil, the USA, England, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and South Africa. The quartet made its Wigmore Hall debut in London in January 2014.
