After the focus in recent years on Haydn and Mozart respectively, September 2027 is devoted to Ludwig van Beethoven. On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the composer's death, audiences can experience a genuine Beethoven Marathon. All nine of Beethoven's symphonies are performed in chronological order over two days, spread across a total of four concerts. The concerts take place on 4 and 5 September in the Concert Hall of Det Kongelige Danske Musikkonservatorium. Beethoven has for many years been a central part of the collaboration between Danmarks Underholdningsorkester and chief conductor Adam Fischer. In 2020 their Beethoven recording was honoured with both an Opus Klassik award and an ICMA (International Classical Music Awards) prize, and the same year the orchestra carried out the first edition of the Beethoven Marathon, albeit in reduced form because of the coronavirus pandemic. Beethoven was a key figure in the transition from Viennese Classicism to Romanticism, and remains among the most significant composers in music history. His nine symphonies are among the most central works in the European cultural heritage, and give a deep insight into Beethoven's artistic and human development. During September Festival 2027, audiences also gain a rare insight into the man behind the music through concerts, introductions, talks and workshops for both children and adults.
