Athelas Sinfonietta Copenhagen
Athelas Sinfonietta Copenhagen is the leading ensemble in Denmark for new composed music. Since its beginnings in 1990, the ensemble has given the first performances of, and commissioned, a long series of works, and besides premieres of brand-new works it has also played a long series of 20th-century classics. Athelas Sinfonietta collaborates with soloists, conductors and ensembles from Denmark and abroad, tours abroad and plays at festivals and in opera productions, most recently with great success in the performance of Steingrimur Rohloff's Babel in the autumn of 2014, which was nominated for a Reumert Award in the category Best Opera. Athelas picks up on new currents, presents them to the music-loving public and thus helps to shape the future of music. It is here that the composers of our time can hear their own and their colleagues' music, here that young musicians and conductors can get exciting assignments and opportunities, and it is here that audiences can gain an insight into what occupies the composers of our time.
